Start Up!

Many of you will not remember the days of cars with chokes: that rod you pulled to let more fuel to the engine on start up. Leave it out too long and the engine flooded and the car stopped. Push it in too early and the car stopped. Luxury! Ford came up with the idea of an "automatic choke" and it was roundly rejected by the driving public. It was only with fuel injected engines and better engine management systems that the choke finally disappeared - thank god!

But what has this got to do with building a house? Well, today I feel I've pulled out the choke and twisted the key - it might still stall and we're stuck at the side of the road but that'll be no worse than where are now.

So, I've arranged a cash injection from some savings and for the last bit of the tanking to be done - OK, the latter's not till the end of May but it's made me feel better.

I also had a natter with Russ. He's just about finished the extension and he'll do a driveway one of his neighbours has been badgering him about, then he's back to us.

"Can't wait to get back to it," he said last Friday.

"Me, too," I replied.

"But don't worry about brass. When we start it'll be 6-8 weeks before you'll need to pay anything."

What a star!

So with a cash (rather than a fuel) injection and the project beginning to roll again, we might be getting somewhere - even if it is only to the bottom of the hill!
