I already knew that Russ, the builder, was a star but when he suggested building the retaining wall outside the LGF patio doors from stone reclaimed from the excavations, I was sceptical. I shouldn’t have been.
In order to move in we have to have a functioning drive. This needs to be covered with limestone hardcore and will eventually have Ecogrid so that we can interplant species such as lavender. However, it also needs some form of retaining wall at both sides otherwise it will collapse or, at best, all the limestone will disappear off the sides.
In just one week, Russ created the wall using stone completely salvaged from the site.

Finished
The next stage was to add railway sleepers to the opposite side to create a barrier to the wood
We’re expecting the renderer soon so work will have to move inside while the scaffolding goes back up but this is looking great!
Let’s just hope a train doesn’t get lost on its way to Manchester!
