Praise and Admiration

Since my last post I’ve been on holiday. In that time Russ, my knight in builder’s boots, has cleared the ground further, cut down each of the 42 piles (don’t engage him in conversation about that bit - his answers will be colourful and filled with expletives), he’s organised a groundworks company to do all the heavy work and, boy, have they cracked on!
Rob and his team started on site on 27 July. I visited that morning as we were getting ready to pack up the car for our West Lakes camping trip. By the time I got there Rob was already involved in putting up shuttering and prepping the site. He was annoyed that the steel hadn’t arrived despite being promised that it would be the day before.
Two days later I got these pics from Russ.
These guys weren’t hanging around. What you can see are the frames for the ground beams and the toe and heel for the retaining wall. I was well-impressed!
Another update mid-week and things had progressed even more with the flexible shuttering and the vertical bars all now in place:
It was quiet for the rest of the holiday but by the time I got back a week later the site looked like this:
We were all ready for the first pour for the ground beams but it didn’t happen before we were off again camping on the east coast. The next update from Russ was:
Ground beams cast and ready for the mesh for the slabs.
We arrived back on the 20 August and a trip to the site showed that progress had been immense. On the previous day Building Control, the warranty inspector and the remediation inspector had all visited because the mesh was in for the slabs and ready for the pour.
And so to today…
Well, you’ll have wait for the next post because Rob and his team have done themselves proud.
I can’t say how good it is to be working with people you can trust so much.
Anyone wanting building work doing, especially groundworks would do well to contact Rob. He’s amazing!

But none of this would have happened had it not been for Russel Taylor - he’s more than a builder, he’s a superstar!
Look out for the next blog post and YouTube video about today’s big pour.
