With Kool and the Gang ringing in my ears, I read the email from the solicitor - the money from the mortgage had been transferred to our account!
After telling Lou, I got in touch with Russ (our long-suffering hero builder) to let him know that we could finally pay him! Then it would be contacting the roofing company, balcony company and Richard our window installer. We were going to be watertight!
And before I knew it I'd spent £40k getting things set up and ready.
While it fills us with elation to finally get the money to complete the build, it doesn't take away all the angst. With interest rates being as they are (even on interest only) we will be taking a huge monthly hit until we can move in and stop paying rent. Then there are the things that will need to be done to get it habitable - stud walling, insulating and screeding the floors and completing the tanking, first and second fix plumbing and electrics...the list goes on.
The aim is, however, to get at least part of the house habitable so that we can move in even if it isn't fully complete.
We now have two years to finish it - but we are aiming at Easter or early summer next year.
Now, let's get back to Kool and the Gang!
