I wasn't sure how I'd feel when the build was halted. It was going so well and I was enjoying my regular visits up to site but needs must and it just had to stop.
Since that decision was made about a fortnight ago we have enjoyed the space it has given us to think about what we want the place to be like: the home not just the house. We've been thinking again about furniture, bathrooms and, most of all, the kitchen.
Before he moved to the new job, Russ made a suggestion that had Lou in raptures. It came out of nowhere. We were up at site one day and he just said, "You've got a door coming out of your kitchen. Do you want it like that?"
My reply was, "Well Lou doesn't but I thought it was there as an escape route for health and safety."
"No, it seems daft to have two doors so close together." Just what my better half said but it must have been done like that for a reason. (I have since found out it was to make getting the shopping into the kitchen easier for Dylan and Veronica who had the plans drawn up orginally).
So, the next thing, Russ is doing away with the door and that makes the kitchen design totally different.
We'd always set our hearts on having an island but now we can run units right into the corner, where before they had to stop because of the door, this makes a peninsula a much more sensible option.
Have a look at the images below. The colour is not what we want but the layout is something like in both cases and ignore the lack of a breakfast bar in the new one - I could put one in!
