Paper For Paper’s Sake

Sorry to start with an expletive but...

Solicitors!

If there is a group that (to me at least) seems not to deserve the fees and status claimed, it is this profession.

Some three months after the current solicitor said we'd have our self-build mortgage, we're still waiting - and now we get some paperwork for the previous landowners to sign! It's a good job we get on like two houses on fire (God forbid)!

So last evening I had to ask Dylan and Veronica to sign a document confirming that they agreed that we can build a house on the building plot with planing permission that we bought from them in 2021! What the hell were we going to do with it otherwise? Leave is as a hole in the ground to attract UFOs or monstrous moles?

The other one was slightly more relevant but still puzzling.

The area we will all (eventually) occupy has certain restrictive covenants. Some of these are due to listed buildings being in the area and others are to do with the routing of services. When I bought the land this was all perfectly clear but since Lou is now going to be named on any (mythical) mortgage, Dylan and Veronica have to sign to say that she has abided by the terms of the covenant. 😳

What a load of old b*ll*cks! And what a waste of everyone's time!

It's almost as if someone is trying to justify being three months overdue and charging us for the privilege. Just saying...

I'll add this to the current armoury of things that I detest about the legal system for stuff like this. One day, come the Great Revolution, I'll read them out in public and shame them all - or not!
